Valve trim repair route
Carbidea makes solid tungsten carbide seats, plugs, cages, balls, discs and sealing rings for valve repair and overhaul. Send a drawing, dimensioned photo or worn sample. We review the sealing pair, locating fits and failure condition, then define a repair or replacement route against your print.
01 / Evidence intake
The useful definition may come from a controlled drawing, a clear photo with scale, or the worn part and its mating body. The review separates what can be measured from what must still be agreed before replacement.
Send PDF, DWG or STEP with revision, critical dimensions, mating references, and any marked sealing, locating or flow features.
Send overview and close-up photos with scale, the mating body context, measurable features, and what changed before failure.
Leak location, wear tracks, impact damage and the mating surface help define the failure.
Media, pressure drop, temperature, solids and previous life narrow the material direction.
Critical faces, locating diameters, travel and flow features are recorded together.
02 / Failure register
This register is a starting point for technical review, not a promise of a particular grade or service life.
| Part | Typical failure | What we review | Material direction |
|---|---|---|---|
| Seat ring | Wire drawing, face leakage, edge chipping | Contact band, seat angle, mating plug and body location | Fine-grain wear direction |
| Plug / needle | Throttling-edge erosion, scoring, tip loss | Flow path, travel and seating cone | High-toughness direction |
| Cage | Cavitation pitting, window erosion | Window pattern, pressure drop and guide alignment | Toughness and cavitation balance |
| Ball | Scuffing, spalling, out-of-round contact | Sphericity intent and matching seat | Wear grade by duty |
| Disc seat ring | Galling, lapped-face leakage | Seat and plug as a sealing pair | Wear or nickel-binder direction |
| Choke bean / seat | Directional washout, impact damage | Bore, taper, entry radius and replacement access | Tougher impact direction |
| Seal / wear ring | Clearance growth, heat checking | ID, OD, finish and running gap | Fine-grain or nickel-binder direction |
| Worn trim sample | Missing or mixed wear geometry | Measured features, mating body and service history | Re-selected from observed duty |
03 / Repair route
Whole part, close-up wear, mating location and any recognizable failure path.
Identify what is original geometry, what has been lost, and what may have moved.
Sealing, locating and flow-control features are dimensioned against the drawing or sample.
Finish, remake or replace only what the evidence and agreed definition support.
Finish and dimensional intent are checked against the agreed drawing before return.
Evidence board
Two public-archive photographs document the historical before-and-after condition. Neither photograph represents Carbidea project work.

CHECK SCHEMATIC
Process illustration / inspection check — not to scale.
04 / Fit check
Capability is reviewed against the marked drawing. Sealing faces can be lapped where the drawing calls for it; locating diameters and mating features are checked as the assembly context, not in isolation.
Engineering references
These guides cover seat failure, choke trim specification, severe-service cages and carbide seat selection.
05 / Request a review
Include a drawing, a clear photo with scale and key dimensions, or the worn part, plus fluid, pressure drop, solids and the previous failure. We will review manufacturability, material direction and the repair or replacement route.
