If it is an NPI prototype, a special shape, or a replacement with a failure history behind it, made-to-print custom parts are the right path. The difference between the two is not price — it is whether the geometry and the material are already proven for your service.
Most sourcing mistakes in carbide come from treating a custom part like a standard one (ordering a blank and hoping the shape works), or a standard part like a custom one (paying for engineering you do not need). In this case the winning move is simple: order the standard blank, finish the critical faces, and keep the rest as-sintered. Tighten only the surfaces that actually fit something — every extra ground face is cost without function.

For a custom part, “custom” is not a price premium — it is spending the money where it counts: engineering judgment on the grade direction, tolerances, and inspection, instead of hoping a standard product happens to fit.

Sizes in your drawing may be in inches — carbide grinding holds inch-dimension tolerances without issue, so spec the fits you actually need.
Send the drawing or a photo, the media, temperature, pressure drop, and — if it is a replacement — a photo of the failed part. We return a grade direction, a realistic tolerance and lead-time view, and a quote within 1–2 business days. If your part is genuinely a standard-blank job, we will say so instead of selling you custom.
